Tollgate Solar Farm

Tollgate Solar Farm is a proposed 16-megawatt (16MW) solar development, to be located on fields to the east of the A1(M), between the towns of Welham Green and Hatfield, within the area of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council.

Project overview

Powering the future with solar

The Tollgate Solar Farm development will generate clean, renewable energy for export into the national electricity system – powering homes and businesses across the country. The development of new renewable energy sources is a key component of the fight against climate change and will help to ensure our energy independence at a time of significant international uncertainty.

We will deliver extensive landscaping alongside the development, which will deliver new habitats and offer visual screening. There will be significant biodiversity benefits associated with the project.

As part of our planning application, we have undertaken detailed assessments of important issues, including visual impact, traffic & transport, heritage and glint & glare..

Do you support the country's transition to clean power by 2030, and net zero emissions by 2050?
Domestic renewable energy generation, such as utility-scale solar, helps ensure the United Kingdom has a secure, domestic energy supply. To what extent do you agree that it is important for the UK to secure its energy supply and not rely on energy imports from overseas?
We have outlined our proposals for new solar energy at Tollgate Farm, in a scheme that minimises visual impact and provides new habitats for local biodiversity. To what extent do you support our proposals?
