New Oak BESS

The New Oak Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a proposed 100 MW facility, to be located on land at New Oak Farm in Camblesforth, North Yorkshire.

Project overview

Energy storage for a smarter, greener future

Strategically located to the south east of Camblesforth village and immediately west of Drax Golf Club, the New Oak Energy Storage project will sit near the Drax Substation and provide 200 megawatt-hours of storage capacity – enough to power 220,000 homes for two hours. By storing excess energy during periods of low demand and releasing it back into the grid at peak times, the battery system will support local and national sustainability targets, contributing to a cleaner, more resilient energy network.

Environmental focus

New Oak Energy Storage is being developed with a strong focus on environmental responsibility. Brockwell Energy will assess the potential impacts on landscape, biodiversity, noise, traffic, and heritage, ensuring that the project aligns with best practices for sustainable development. Strategic landscape planting will enhance biodiversity and minimise visual impact, while a Flood Risk and Drainage Strategy will ensure responsible site water management

  • Community engagement & benefits

At New Oak BESS, we’re dedicated to building positive, long-term relationships with the local community. Potential benefits of the project include:

    • Community Support Fund: Direct contributions to help deliver projects that matter locally.
    • Local Jobs & Services: Opportunities for local contractors and suppliers during construction and beyond.
    • Environmental Enhancements: Commitment to biodiversity and wider sustainability improvements in and around the site.

Public consultation

As part of our commitment to engaging with the local community, we are hosting an online public consultation event for our proposed New Oak Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project.

The consultation will take place via webinar on Tuesday 8 April, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
This session will provide an opportunity to hear more about the project, ask questions, and share your views directly with the project team.
