The Glentaggart Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a proposed 42MW facility located approximately 4km southeast of Douglas, South Lanarkshire. The project will store and release renewable energy, helping to stabilise the electricity grid and support Scotland’s transition to a net-zero future.
Strategically positioned near the proposed Redshaw Substation, Glentaggart BESS will be capable of storing 84 megawatt-hours of electricity - enough to power 136,000 homes for two hours. The project will contribute to local and national sustainability targets by balancing energy supply and demand, ensuring a cleaner and more resilient energy system.
