Brockwell are pleased to announce the start of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) scoping process for its Breezy Hill Energy Project, with submission to the Scottish Ministers’ Energy Consents Unit of a request for an EIA Scoping Opinion. The Breezy Hill scheme is proposed for an area west of the North Kyle scheme and has secured grid capacity of 80MW connecting into the nearby New Cumnock sub-station. The preliminary design of the scheme currently undergoing scoping is considering including up to 26 turbines.
Iain Cockburn of Brockwell Energy commented:
The original aim of the North Kyle scheme was to deliver 300MW of capacity to help with the regeneration of the adjoining former mining sites and the surrounding communities. The North Kyle scheme was cut back to 220MW as grid capacity was limited. Breezy Hill has secured the additional 80MW of capacity that was not available at the time of the North Kyle scheme development. The scheme will be carefully designed to leverage the infrastructures created for the North Kyle scheme. The extensive local knowledge and experience that Brockwell has accumulated of the area will allow us to design the scheme to both minimise negative impacts, and where possible and practicable, introduce and enhance positive effects.
