Gary Bird

Head of Project Development

Gary is a seasoned renewable energy professional with extensive experience in project development and environmental engineering. Before joining Brockwell Energy, he spent nine years at Eco2, where he played a key role in delivering large-scale biomass developments. His responsibilities included securing grid connections, managing planning applications, and overseeing environmental permitting, all under demanding timelines that required a keen focus on commercial viability. Gary’s academic background includes a BEng (Hons) in Environmental Engineering from the University of Nottingham and a recently completed MSc in Climate Change from Birkbeck University.

At Brockwell, Gary leads the development of a 2GW pipeline of storage and solar assets across England, Scotland, and Wales. His work spans the full lifecycle of project development, from site selection and land acquisition to consenting and construction. This includes a diverse range of projects requiring distribution, transmission, Local Planning Authority (LPA), and Development Consent Order (DCO) approvals.

Gary brings technical expertise, strategic insight, and a hands-on approach to navigating the complexities of renewable energy projects. His leadership is instrumental in driving Brockwell’s ambitions to advance sustainable energy solutions across the UK.
