Alex Lambie | Brockwell Energy

Alex Lambie is a visionary business leader with a distinguished 43-year career in the energy sector. Since 2016, Alex has been at the helm of Brockwell Energy, steering the Edinburgh-based company through a competitive and evolving market. His extensive expertise, honed over decades of transformative leadership, has been pivotal in shaping Brockwell’s success.

Alex’s career reached a turning point in 2004 when he co-founded Carron Energy Limited, later rebranded as Welsh Power Group. One of his early standout achievements was the acquisition of the AES Fifoots Point coal-fired power station for £38 million, transforming it into a key asset and establishing Welsh Power as a leading Independent Power Producer (IPP).

In 2006, Alex led a £180 million management buyout backed by Deutsche Bank, driving Welsh Power’s expansion into new businesses, including Haven Power (B2B electricity supply), Carron Engineering and Construction (EPC services), and Severn Power, an 850MW CCGT plant. Under his leadership, the company secured £650 million in project financing, oversaw major developments like Wyre Power and Huntspill Power, and achieved a valuation exceeding £1 billion before a strategic asset sale following the 2008 financial crisis.

Not one to shy away from reinvention, Alex repurchased Welsh Power in 2011, refocusing on distributed generation assets, gas reciprocating engines, and open-cycle gas turbines. By 2014, Welsh Power had built a robust portfolio of efficient peaking power plants and partnered with Octopus Energy before Alex sold his majority stake.

Before founding Welsh Power, Alex held senior roles at Amec Process and Energy, Endesa Europa, CEGB, and Amoco Europe and West Africa. He also served on the Supervisory Boards of the Amsterdam Power Exchange and ENDEX, further solidifying his reputation as a leader with strategic foresight and a talent for turning underperforming assets into high-value enterprises.
